Marbles

As a child I used to experience a strong sense of

aesthetic reverie, when I played marbles at school

with the other children, all those bright colours with

unusual patterns used to fascinate me, and send me

into a state of visual esctasy, as I gazed at them,

before flicking them with my thumb and finger.

Of course the teachers being killjoys of all youthful

fun soon banned this enjoyable activity, they decried

it as gambling. So? What's wrong with gambling, we

gamble everyday when we cross the road!

Anyhow in these bland boring adult years I look

back nostalgically at those sublime moments when

I used to stare in a state of bliss at those rare spheres

of exquisite colourful beauty, and remember how I

used to excitedly steal the marbles I had won home,

And jealously guard them as treasure.

And now dear wife, remember how I was first

attracted to your glorious eyes? Well dear wife I have

now recaptured those moments of childhood rapture

and joy, as I flick with my thumb and finger your

resplendent eyeballs across the polished floorboards

of our home!

If only you too, could see...The beauty! The beauty!
