An Obligated Perspective

Sadness is reality,

And reality, a facade.

So often is naivety the lens favored by the world,

Oh, for it is tragic, true desire.

May the surface never be breached,

The cover never be turned,

The coin never be flipped.

Horrid is reality,

To think that such secrecy is revered both by the hurt,

And those who prey.

The crushing weight of the masquerade.

Why hide it?

To cherish the blemishes,

Not the imperfections, but the unknowable.

Truly a testament to humanity,

Ever evasive of comfort,

As if naught but one soul can know,

Oblivious to human nature,

As if unaware of the familiarity of such feelings.

The world wears a mask.

And beneath,

The unspoken,

The unrequited,

The unheard,

The unknown,

The truth.
