I met you in a dream

Your smile was the perfect painting

Shattered eyes of stained glass,

I asked if you had remembered me

Faeries conceived from tired hands

Towers etched into broken windows

The dove died in your arms

You wept, eternalising its life

Polychromatic skies

And spectra in the seas never die

Scraping your fears into the trees

Angels hiding their shameful faces

You and I sang a song

That only you and I could sing

Desperately,

I wish I could remember the words again

We stood in flowered fields,

With canvases and colours never seen

A sight only in dreams,

Where nothing ever withers away

I’m not prepared to wake again

This earth,

Killer of all creations,

It takes,

Remains bereft and wanting

What kind of mother kills her own sons?

You and I sang a song

That only you and I could sing

I will dream,

I will dream until the words come back to me

I will be,

I will be all you would have hoped I would be

Till we meet once again,

Will you paint while you wait for me?
