A A A

I woke up blind

For I had no reason to see

I exhumed my own brain

Washed it clean with the rain

And buried it deep by the sea.

I am a very simple man

I go out every day at three

I sit in the park

And listen to larks

And sometimes, they listen to me.

My wife passed on four years ago

They say she had beautiful eyes

I don’t know beauty

It goes right through me

I really know nothing of wives.

At times, I wake up in the night

Hearing someone whisper my name

It bothers me not

The world’s in my blind spot

And all of this life is a game.

I was never a cosmic man

I have let the universe be

The stars have aligned

Inside my own mind

But I still have no reason to see.

I am standing here on the shore

All my dull thoughts stand beside me

Perhaps I’m more sane

Or maybe just plain

Gone blind with my own apathy.
