The Highway

I’m reminded of the highway

When the clear sky is black

The day leaves early

Black except for the moon and stars

They don’t move to follow.

I’m reminded of the highway

Swept with swirling snow

Black almost white

Snow covers the green for a while now

It follows the wheels.

I’m reminded of the highway

Anticipated solitary trees

In the white fields

Trees who cut into the barren

Leafless but weighed down.

I’m reminded of the highway

Wispy white passing

Swift but soothing.
