We do not easily fit into a box

 or a label

or are black or white or grey.

We are the juxtaposition of those whose mouths

are filled with turpentine and cyanide.

Branded “Boys will be boys” and “What was she wearing?”

Those are the ones who will strip us

of golden feathers leaving cold alabaster bones.

Those who equate women with inanimate

possessions to devalue us. Our trauma

 is not

An amazing story.

Or some other Tumblr bullshit

that you want to pull to make it seem normal.

We are normal. We are every day.

We are ghosts hiding

in flesh, disguised as a temple,

Vandalized with a hashtag

and a movement that’s stained

with locker room talk.
