two coffee-colored eyes

of still an infant at heart

are looking out into the sapphire body of water,

spreading out of sight,

separated by a straight horizon line

from the azure skies.

exactly at that matching point

the two eyes stare,

and her curious mind wonders:

how is it that I am

a five-foot-four creature

with my black purse

and ever-tangled headphones,

biting my tongue and holding my breath,

never going into the ocean waters

deeper than when sea levels reach my neck;

and not a brave captain;

eyes small and sharp,

but generously smiling from their cheeks;

a grin breaking through their red beard,

like light attempting to pierce through rich maple crowns at sunset;

and her soul cries out:

«all aboard!»

glaring through gold-plated binoculars

out into the distance.

and it all feels so real,

or at least slightly less distant

than the horizon line.

what a chameleon soul she has,

this creature with her coffee-colored eyes.

with an imagination so limitless,

but aligning like a domino,

with only one thing left to wonder about;

why are we always

so wildly fascinated by the unknown?
