Some song lyrics I wrote one day, just for a laugh. I don't have any musical talent so it's not much of a song at this stage :-)

Jules Verne had a submarine, had a rocket ship as well,

But no-one had a time machine except for Herbert Wells.

Except for Herbert Wells, except for Herbert Wells,

No-one had a time machine, except for Herbert Wells.

Herbert was at home one day, heard a knock upon the door,

He opened it to see a man he thought he'd seen before.

“Who are you?” Said Herbert, the older man replied

Young man I am your future self, now can I come inside?

The old man said “You'll soon be rich, so do not look so glum.

I'll tell you all you need to know, the shape of things to come.”

Young Herbert scribbled quickly but his wrist began to ache.

He said unto his older self, we'd better take a break.

Jules Verne had a submarine, had a rocket ship as well,

But no-one had a time machine except for Herbert Wells.

Except for Herbert Wells, except for Herbert Wells,

No-one had a time machine, except for Herbert Wells.

Young Herbert said “We'll have a drink, if what you say is true.”

Old Herbert said “The Invisible Man will surely want one too.”

Young Herbert set the drinks down, not knowing what to think.

Old Herbert said “He's gone now, I'd better have his drink.”

Old Herbert had another round, his nose became quite puce

And then he found his narrative became extremely loose.

Young Herbert thought that martians weren't in the life he led

Old Herbert couldn't remember so he made it up instead

Jules Verne had a submarine, had a rocket ship as well,

But no-one had a time machine except for Herbert Wells.

Except for Herbert Wells, except for Herbert Wells,

No-one had a time machine, except for Herbert Wells.

At the end of that strange evening, way past the time for bed,

Old Herbert bid himself goodnight and this is what he said.

Mother uses “Herbert” to call us in for tea

But it's not fit for a writer, you'd better use HG.

That was many years ago and Herbert's in his shed,

He knows he needs a time machine if he wants to get ahead.

With leather, brass and walnut, a mango and some twine

He built himself a sofa that could traverse through time.

Jules Verne had a submarine, had a rocket ship as well,

But no-one had a time machine except for Herbert Wells.

Except for Herbert Wells, except for Herbert Wells,

No-one had a time machine, except for Herbert Wells.
