Impulsively Said

He needed to get away, just to somewhere quiet, where he would be alone just to think. Without saying another word he walked off in search of solitude.

Why had he said it? If only he could take those words back. But that’s the problem with the spoken word; there is no ‘back’ button, no delete. Once something has been uttered it is there forever.

Even as he was speaking he knew his words were causing pain. A lot of it, too. He couldn’t stop it; anger had taken control of his tongue and the words were pouring out before he gained control.

Tears that he had caused, he walked away from. He had to; his fists were clenched and there was the urge to lash out. At least he’d not let that happen although hadn’t she said that words hurt as much as any weapons.

How much damage had he caused? Was it recoverable or had his impulsive words caused too much irreparable damage.
