Lonely Nights Accompanied By a Pen

The teenage girl,
Who trusts no one else,
Musters up enough courage
To pick up a pen and
Reveal her darkest secrets to her diary.

The boy, who plans on checking out
Of life as it were a hotel he had
Been staying at for years,
Silently seals his suicide note.

The little first-grader writes
To her imaginary friend,
Knowing the connection
Between them is never-ending
And never seen.

The fiancé stays up late,
Hands pulling at his hair,
While he frantically writes
Out his vows, drunk alone
On the thought of being
Married in the morning.

The band member is awake
At 3 AM in his studio, writing
Out lyrics solely on the tip
Of his tongue, not yet knowing
What will become of it.

The patient grandmother
Has her legs propped up on a stool,
Squinting with her glasses on,
Trying to write in straight lines,
A thank-you note for the flowers
She had received that morning.

The author is restless,
Having sudden inspiration hit him
In the local coffee shop as he jots down
His ideas on a torn up napkin at the table.CL
