You do not love me except because

If you did, your love would not waver. From sunrise

To melting sunset, you would wait to love me.

Wait! Do you love me? Your cold heart

Drops love into hate, hatred I

Cannot and will not melt or bend to.

You are numb to my leaden resentment and

Blind to the spears that spew from your precious lips

Lips I kissed… Maybe February nights will rob

Us of our memory, training distance. Maybe you will untether

Me and we will consent to a heart’s content.

An unattended fire burns viciously. It melds together love

And hatred and pain. It tears through whole hearts.

Because I love you, I do not, except I do.
