whew.... here goes... it's something i've been trying to define and solidify, because many of my concepts and proposals need a solid, definite and common base of reference. Something that we all can agree upon its meaning so we can build from there upon.  Successful communication of meaning is a primary reason for our being divided and scattered and seperated as we are. I think, (and this is a leap of speculation) that interpersonal communication and the act of relating and interacting in every possible manner is a prime reason for our existence...

(And, yes, Hunter, this is written to address our conversation earlier, which has ploughed a furrow in a wide field of concepts... and has allowed me a focus and direction to give a shapeless mass of understanding a shape and form... and in answering the unspoken question I am able to verbally and rationally relate this process.... like water flows into a channel... so, thank you, I've been struggling with an approach to the subject...)

ok, so....... as I said I have taken two words... 'Truth' and 'Reality' and have seperated them from one another and allocated them specific meanings, which are commonly intermixed and blurred together...  you also spoke of how you believed that reality and perception differed.... and I realized that we agree completely, but use different terms...  in which we use 'reality' opposite of one another,  a seed of confusion which attempts to divert our recognition of our congruence, our similar meaning, of how we both came to the same conclusions... and, so it would simplify and ease all further communications if we agreed upon definitions, we must synchronize something in our personal reference systems so that we can associate further premises and theories knowing that we have established an agreed upon fact, common ground.

We could make up completely new words and use them, but that only alienates and confuses anyone else and compromises the validity of the subject....... basically, it's silly and sounds over dramatic to create gibberish words to "aggrandize" our meanings.....

So, I wish to explain why I use the words I do.... 'cause I got substance and reasoning to it and I think it is rather convincing, though not any more proper or correct than any other way to reference the two sides... check this out-

'Reality' is used quite a bit... by many people and in many ways, tho most would agree that it is used as an oppsite to 'lies' and 'falsehoods' and 'make-believe'... but the problem is that those already have an opposite... and it is 'truth'. Why does 'truth' have superiority over 'reality'? good question... but 'truth' covers alot more ground and encompasses so much more than 'reality'.. plus, 'reality' (the word) is a squished together form of other words... lets look at them... and I don't want to drag out Latin usage and tense and blah..... lets just look at the words we know and accept.. the suffix -ality, for example... lets go alphabetically, just for a starting point... um.. 'abnormality'.... huh, well thats a mix of 'ab'=not, 'normal'=usual, and -ality' meaning ..uh.. presence?, no .. condition? more like 'status' or a state of being 'not usual'... or, even better 'being seperate from that which is usual'... lets go to 'b' um.. 'banality'.. to exude the characteristic of boring... how dull, lets try 'brutality'... brut- strength, or violent force and 'ality'-to an individual... uhm.. for 'c' all i can think of is 'casuality' which is what caused what to happen (but looks like casulty), or conventionality, which is a whoile buncha latin squishedness... 'con'=together 'vent'=release 'tion'=movement 'ality'-choice?.. to decide to act together in the same manner...  hmmm... ahh.. 'duality'.. thats a simpler one. 'duo'=two.. then 'ality' there means 'as one'....  ok lets toss some more . 'personality, individuality, criminality, fatality, generality...all I can gather is that 'ality' seems to convey the meaning of 'unique', or 'characteristic of seperation'.  a fatality is death happening to one person, a generality is a lumping together many into one, individuality and personality are obvious and even 'totality is the adding together of all the ones...so... I deduct that 'reality' is what is apparent to (or as you say 'the perceptions of') the one.  As a matter of fact... it's realitive.... it's how one relates to outer things..  it's relation to..  it's 'reality'....

I can't really stand up and exclaim, " my,God!!! reality is realitive!"......  i think Homer Simpson would give me a 'doh'  on that one ...and Aristotle, Plato and Socrates would get in line to berate me because they originally defined it as 'reality' for the sole reason that they had determined that it was realitive to the individual... named it after it even... then beat me senseless for merely stating a truth that they muscled together several ages ago and they would howl and agonize that after all this time I had only just arrived at their point, even after them naming it descriptively, and there would be much gnashing of teeth....

That's ok... they deserve a little deflating, after being called the fathers of Philosophy, while existing in a reality that considered communal baths a luxury, not only vilified homosexuality, but staunchly avowed that females were merely for reproduction and that joy and love could only be achieved between men, and the countless advances and widening and deepening of thier civilization and culture had at it's pinnacle, it's highest level attained.... had developed the... toga? as clothes?  really? that's the result of fashion in the upper eschelon of humanity for that time? a sheet? what did they leave behind? a dirty loincloth? or did the sheet just go over those? well done gentleman.... accomplished the aqueduct but can't seem to envision pants.... geez... greeks...

But language seeps through... 'Reality' is what is real... realitive to who percieves it....  that does not mean that it is less meaningful, less important or less critical. It doesn't even mean that it isn't true... just seperated.... As for there being one solid reality that we all move through and that exists beyond us and that without us would remain? well.... thats the tree falling in the forrest with noone around... noone heard it and noone cared...  though, to use your own point you spoke earlier, visual perception is information decoded in color organized light patterns... aurul.. oops.. aurl  uh  arul...... shit .. aural? ::fuggit::audible perception is input through varying vibrations and notes and pitches and tones of sound... textile perception is sampled and squished and smoothed and scratched and sorted by smooth-rough, wet-dry, fine-coarse, tacky, solid, viscous, courderoy and multitudes of other textures... I won't even bother with taste and scent because you understand... and I wont mention our primary sense, above even sight, on the 'most used, most often' list, because It can't be measured or defined by a human without the one measureing and observing completely altering it and it can't be recorded by machine 'cause we haven't figured out it's equivalent to a visual 'mirror' in order to acknowledge it exists... we are like primitives before they saw their reflections... and if they thought they were some ugly mo-fo's when they first saw their features and the faces they had stared out of forever, their shock and horror will be infantesimal compared to the pending revealation of ourself to ourselves....

So, if the world, this reality we live in, can exist without us...  it has no colour, our eyes paint it for our brains, it is silent, like outer space, it's emptiness eats all sound, it has no real shape or form or texture or surface, those were merely a language, a code it used to define itself for us... and it uses every means possible, because it's really more 'reacting to us' than 'guiding us'... echos of our output merging into the echos of those who were before, like waves rebounding off shores that weave and chop the ones following right behind... not echos of sound but of that much stronger sense... the one that we do know is tied to sound... to music, to screams, to cries, to laughter, to burbling water and thunderstorms... that is primitively expressed with colours and light and shadows and designs and blended and clashed and smeared and sprayed and splattered... the one we never learned about in school because our elders never knew it was supposed to be a tool. It's our most powerful weapon, it's what makes us Man.  It's possible limits of which we've seen only glimpses, and it's potential uses are..... everything.....  cause that's what it is for. We die without it just like food or air, and since we've forgotten where we got it we constantly find the only other source... each other... and we take it and we need it and we feed off it.....like a million recycling cannibals, constantly chewing off parts of others as others gnaw on ours....hey, wow......zombies fer sure...

The one sense that the others are only reflections of.... by-products of us as we spend our ... focus, our intent, our attention, our energy.... flavoured in emotions like a prism colours the light we see and all the instruments can play a symphony, as many as a thermometer has degrees.....

But the purpose for those and other things, of how we grow through emotion by recording it as our memories, how we are individually mixtures of energy that swirls  and hurls us around and we can connect and effect  others almost like solutions in chemistry, building ourselves with bricks of memories weve molded from energy passed from one to another and on and on in the form of attention/emotion..... (attention is like the pressure, emotion the temperature- for an analogy) and of all the little things that are interesting of which i've got bits of pieces of evidence and graphs and maps that dont mean shit... like you said, "you can't possibly constantly focus on it." Exactly.... more like a blindfolded man walks through a room and avoids obstacles by sensing their edges...but that's for chapters 2, 3.... and probably into infinity....
