Wrapped snugly in the plot of her novel, the girl with the yellow raincoat sat facing a large window which looked out over a rain-soaked street. As she moved between the pages, time passed with a determined lethargy and seemed to trail down the window, encapsulated in the glittering droplets. These droplets drummed on the roof like impatient fingers on the table, waiting for the girl to finish her novel. Seemingly oblivious to the steady stream of customers leaving the café, the girl read on, her yellow raincoat making a bold statement against the thick, honeyed lighting. Emotions flickered across her face for nanoseconds at a time, each carving her features then returning them to their original state, as if these fickle emotions had tampered with something far above their own station. Yet these emotions, arrogant in nature, would always linger in her eyes – only ever in her eyes – as if adding ingredients into some obscure recipe, whose contents must remain the deepest of secrets.
