If you are made of marble,

let me carve my name across your chest,

or maybe some place less obvious,

but still something you cannot erase,

something that you cannot get rid of,

something that nobody else can give you,

because it was my hammer and chisel,

and mine alone that gave it to you,

and I swear I’m not a jealous lover,

but works of art should be protected,

and you? you are a masterpiece,

and some desperate part of me,

wants to keep you locked behind glass,

keep you out of reach of the world,

of every bad and evil thing, including me,

keep you always like something perfect,

but I know you aren’t perfect,

and you know I’m not either,

so let me chisel away at your marble chest,

and you can cut into my flesh.
