I've had diabetes for years and it's always a constant battle. Can't ever take a break from it, even though I wish I could.

A prick to the finger and it happens,

Blood’s coming out but you can’t stop it,

Put on the test strip and it calibrates,

Letting you know another setting that’s a life rate,

Numbers show up on the screen,

And you don’t know what to expect,

High, Low, or in between,

Until it shows up on the screen,

Time to shoot up and take a prick,

From a needle almost an inch length,

Shoot yourself up with more meds,

Thinking it will be the end,

Until you see it needs to repeat,

Rinse and repeat,

Till you scream and shout,

Only it won’t leave you,

It can’t leave you no matter how hard you try,

But it doesn’t mean you can’t survive,

It’s still there, but so are you,

With God there to see you through,

All this treatment will help you breathe,

And you can get off your knees,

It’s still there tied to you,

But only you can see it through,

Get up and shout,

Get up and scream,

You don’t control me.
