In that horrible silence,
I hear the ticking sound made by the second's hand of the clock.
I feel my breathe-in and breathe-out clearly.
I hear the buzzing of the crickets in the dark.
Every small sound is clearly heard.
Waiting desperately for the door bell to ring
and ready to run and open the door.

Was he able to attend the meeting or not?
Was the child back to school or not?
Had they both started home or not?
I was trying to catch my mind that is roaming around many thoughts
and making it focus on the door bell sound with its ears wide open.
I realized that my eye blinks are in sync with the clock ticks.
A sudden ping in my system pulled me back to my work for a while.

Again coming back to the silence,
I looked at the time
and my heart started beating faster and faster
Thoughts and thoughts
Lots and lots of thoughts
filling up the wandering mind
A tender shiver started from the bottom of my spine
slowly spreading till its top
making the body chill though no sweat
Door bell rang and promptly brought me back to conscious
