The highway is my ocean

And I am a weekend surfer

I follow the winding waves that curve back to you.

You are my favorite island

All alone and lovely

An emerald jewel laced with old silver in a sea of gold

Our language is innate

I’ve planted parts of myself within your soil

You laugh as you watch me sleep and grow and refine

Time is not our friend

But a god that dictates the winds of change

I leave with the high tide that swallows you up whole

Rarely do I speak your name

Or claim you as my home

Here in this concrete jungle stuck between loving you and needing space
