it's 6:49 pm
the first day is always full
what to do ... who to see ... what to cook
we arrived safe n sound in Trinidad on Friday morning
doubles for breakfast, fish curry & rice for dinner
after a long day at work on Thursday & then traveling all night
in between going to the market & cooking
there were a few cat naps
a couple of cold showers
conversations with my bestie
quick chats with the neighbors
now it's time to pause & reflect
why I am here?
the people I've come to know here
it's a big part of why I keep coming back
they are now part of my family
if they see me on the street or in the grocery
they stop what they're doing to reconnect
with hugs 'n kisses and a big "Welcome Home"
they don't have much; however, what they do have, they share
it's a quality nowadays that's quite rare
life on the island is quite different than home
really great food, real life & fabulous vibes
make this the place you wanna be
there's a birthday lime in our neighborhood tonight
that means plenty laughter, good tunes & food
tomorrow's menu has already been decided
all that's left to do tonight is to keep the mosquitoes at bay
keep the fan on high & sleep well in our bed
in our home away from home
tomorrow is a new day
what we didn't finish today will be there in the morning
time to unwind, relax and take it all in!
