If you’re traveling to Tobago, pick a day and get out onto one of the Reef Boats that meanders out to Buccoo Reef, Nylon Pool & No Man’s Land.

As you enter the Pigeon Point Beach Area you’ll find most of the Reef Boat Operators hustling with their “sugar lips"

My first time in Tobago, we only visited the Buccoo Reef & Nylon Pool portion of the trip and so when opportunity presented itself again, I wanted to ensure we included the best part of the trip; the BBQ on No Man’s Land!

Plan to take the 11:00 AM departure from Pigeon Point and get up to the top deck where you can take in the amazing views! If you sit down below, you’ll miss the party going on upstairs that you didn’t even know was happening!

You’ll likely stop at another jetty on the way to pick up some additional people; the more, the merrier. Once everyone is on board, the lesson begins. The Captains on board will introduce you to their local knowledge of the Reef, they’ll share details about the Reef that you won’t find written in any textbook and they do it in a way that makes it fun to learn.

You can go snorkelling to see what’s really underneath the boat, or you can relax and just take it all in … you’re out in the middle of this huge body of water, where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Caribbean Sea … the music is pumping, the sound of excited voices fill your ears as people are discovering “real Bago life”

The next stop is Nylon Pool … some classify it as one of the Wonders of the World … I’m not sure of that fact; however, what I can tell you is this; it’s not to be missed! There is local folklore that the Captains will share with you when you reach Nylon Pool … if I were to tell you now, it would spoil the surprise of visiting … just do it!

Once everyone is back on board they’ll make a quick stop to drop off anyone who has paid for the No Man’s Land BBQ … and this is where the real adventure begins!

If you’ve ever wanted to see if you could handle being a participant on Survivor … test your skills out while you’re on No Man’s Land! Our day started out beautifully … the sun was shining, not a cloud in the sky … until we reached Nylon Pool!

It was too late to turn back then, we had already paid our fees to Sugar who was busy preparing our feast for four … when it started to rain, there we were … stranded on No Man’s Land with no running water, no electricity and no toilets … no worries, you’ll figure it out … we all do!

Shortly after we were dropped off, Sugar arrived with all the fixings … and even in the rain, the show must go on … so Sugar begins to build a fire in the BBQ pit, we break into the keg of Rum Punch and all other issues get quickly forgotten.

There were several types of Salad, Fresh Garlic Bread baked over the open fire, we had fresh Fish, BBQ Chicken, Baked Beans, Fresh Fruit … oh and did I mention the keg of Rum Punch?

It was an afternoon of “Liquid Sunshine” that I will never forget! It’s an experience you’ll come home raving about & likely if you get the chance to come back to Tobago … you’ll want to do it all over again & again … I know I will!
