She stood eye to eye with him. This close all she wanted to do was kiss his soft pink lips. But that would have been against protocol. With all the security cameras watching her, a kiss was not worth losing her job.

Still eye-to eye with him she fumbled down by his side until she found his hand. His flesh was cold as the grave. She took his cold hand in hers massaging the back with her thumb. No response, she knew she was wasting her time, emotionally, on him. For the meantime anyway.

The alarm sounded, alerting all employers to leave the building. No one ever stayed behind. There was no overtime. At precisely 6pm the doors and gates automatically locked and would not re-open until six the next morning.

She stole one final look into those cobalt blue eyes of his and left laboratory number 13, walking out of the gate and away from the Mary Shelly AI Institute.
