I am a man

I have fears, I have doubts, and I have regrets

I have dreams, I have ambitions, and a yearning for success

I don’t know if the path I walk is the right one

I don’t even know if this can be called a path beneath my feet anymore

I am a man

Footprints become lost amongst the undergrowth

Every step is fueled by the desire to be a benefit rather than a burden

To move forward being a person others can rely upon

I am a pillar, weathered and beaten yet standing tall

Many lean on me so I simply refuse to fall

I am a man

I have so much sorrow inside, I keep it contained

But some days it ascends aggressively to the surface

Threatening to abscond from its shackles

These demons are clever,

I build walls to keep them at bay

Spilled ink again,

I write to prevent their decay

I am a man

I wear a mask, It is pretty

It falls within the confines of what society perceives as okay

I am not okay

Now you know me more than most

I lie to everyone close

Yet, is it for their sake or mine?

These feelings are hard to describe

I keep them in tethers and binds

I am slowly losing this fight

So, please bear in mind…

I am a man
