What wars do you fight?

Within the mystery I revel,

and within the darkness I rebel,

fight against the night not to win,

only to spar.

We settle an age old score,

the darkness and I,

for he's not a stranger in my head.

I lose the first round,

win the second,

lose the third,

and win the fourth,

a rollercoaster pattern we follow like clockwork.

He's impressed with my skill,

for I'm no gentle fighter,

and he beckons I follow him into the night

when he knows I will refuse, and egg on another fight,

for if I go with him into the night

I know I will not return

as who I was.

And I've learned

to truly like me.
