My soul recognized something in yours

When our brown eyes met.

My heart knew you were the one.

Large paws for such a small boy

Perfect for helping you bound through life

And leave paw prints on my heart.

A tail too short to wag but

A body long enough to wriggle.

I knew from that first night

Awakening on the floor with your radiator body

Curled between my neck and shoulder,

You chose me as I chose you.

Our souls were matched.

Though you’ve been a bad boy at times

You’ll always be my good, good boy.

And as the years speed passed

I realize one thing more and more

That makes soul mates heart breakers –

I will never

Be ready to say

“Goodbye, my good boy.”
