DISCOVERING LIFE

She grew up in an abusive home
Always felt that she was alone
In the world to deal with things on her own
Discovering what it was like to be self-grown

Born to parents who did not know
How a little girl was supposed to grow
Up in a world with no love to show
Discovering what it was like to feel low

To her mom, she was securely attached
To mommy she always latched
When she stumbled, mom would always catch
Discovering what it was like to feel matched

Though reaching the age of four
Dad's screaming would cause her to lock herself behind the bedroom door
Sitting confused on the bedroom floor
Discovering what it was like to be ignored

The times she could go out to play
She would want to stay out all day
And peacefully in the grass she would lay
Discovering what it was like to catch the sun rays

When her parents would fight
She would gather her siblings in her room at night
Hug and hold them close until they felt alright
Discovering what it was like to hold each other tight

The times she and her siblings were sad
Were times would make her mad
Her temperament became bad
Discovering what it was like to resent dad

Growing up the beatings would retreat
Onto her siblings he would badly treat
She would jump in to replace the beat
Discovering what it was like to feel defeat

At one point running was the only option
Since she was not put up for adoption
She approached the roads with caution
Discovering what it was like to feel forgotten

As she grew older and matured
New relationships occurred
But with trust issues they never endured
Discovering what it was like to feel unsure

After time she found her own
Ways to deal with the history at home
Became involved in things unknown
Discovering what it was like to feel disowned

For her it felt as though
This was how her life was supposed to go
Always feeling down and low
Discovering what it was like to overdose

She felt as though her life had no meaning
And that constantly inside herself she was screaming
Felt no use or sense of her being
Discovering what it was like to be a weakling

Until one autumn day
Someone came along to say
That they believed in her in every way
Discovering what it was like to feel okay

She slowly found herself
Started concentrating on her health
Believed her life can have much wealth
Discovering what it was like to have help

She continued to go get her education
Passed without worries or hesitation
Gradually got rid of her negation
Discovering an uplifting life formation

At times she still thinks of her past
And oh, how those times flew fast
All the troublesome she had surpassed
Discovering what it is like to outlast

Her relationships now are supporting
Her boyfriend has given her four years of adoring
Brings out the good things in her to keep her going
Discovering what it is like to feel a love that is ensuring

She has gained a positive relationship with her mother
Assures her appreciation and that she is unlike no other
Loves her to the point that she feels greatly love-smothered
Both discovering what it is like to no longer suffer

She has gained a closeness with her siblings
Together, they are always giggling
Reminds them that her love for them is forever giving
Discovering what it is like to know the true meaning of living
