The lovely castle o' Rothesay Toon

May yer wee bare feet

Slap slap aroun

Auld Bute castle

In Rothesay Toon.

And ever still

Your youthful eye

See Ettrick Bay

Mount Stuart forby.

See the summer lark

High, high a'boon

The Calder River

Flowin' doon.

In Motherwell hame to yer kin

Their lives and loves:

Sweet spirits ascending

Like white doves.

Slap slap yer feet

On cobbles roun'

The lovely castle o'

Rothesay Toon.

An Elegy to my great nephew in the Lailands Scottish vernacular.

Eric John Dunbar Hunter.
