A Broken Kingdom is about the life of my Dungeons and Dragons character, Oskar. He joined our game at level 24, close to age 50. I decided to create a backstory for him, but I tend to go overboard almost every time I start a project, so: novel. The novel diverges from the in-game story of Oskar's life a good bit, but the overall course of his life is the same. Many things that happen were directly related to challenges given by our Game Master (Booksie author Cactus), including the plot of the entire novel. We have him to thank for quite a lot.

I changed a few things to further distance my book from D&D and the Pathfinder system, but I can't deny the inspiration from the game. I changed the magic system, how some monsters work, and a few other things I won't go into just yet. I did keep a few things: the title of Bloodrager and the name of the god Moradin were so ingrained to the core of my story that I couldn't bear to change them.

This Companion book is meant to provide exposition and a deeper understanding of the world in which the story is told. After the prologue, each chapter will go along with a chapter of A Broken Kingdom.

Chapter 11: Rage

Submitted: September 27, 2018

This chapter concludes Oskar's experience in the cave, and we see him rescued.

However, he was the instrument of his own rescue: if he hadn't Raged, he would have never been able to get that boulder off of himself, he never would have made it to where the tunnel had caved-in,
and he never would have been able to crack the wall open enough for him to call out to let the Druid know where to open the cave.

If Oskar hadn't Raged that day, he wouldn't have survived long enough for Marent and Amnestria to save him.
