“Her Walk”

She walked

down

the hallway

with that

same

stride of

indifference

that she

had

in so many

of the things

she did,

the slow

sway

of her hips

as her right

hand

runs down

the side of

her body

saying to

anyone

watching

she didn’t

care

whether you

noticed her

or not

she gets more

than enough

attention

when she

wants it

all of this

you can easily

see

reflected in

her walk,

she has a

way

of pulling

people

to her

left alone

in a room

full of strangers

she’d have a

couple of new

friends

sitting at her

table

by the time

she orders

her

second drink

not that she

cared

if she drank

alone

she might even

tell you

she preferred

it that way

though she’s

rarely given

the opportunity

to do so,

she’s given up

trying to fight

her own

personality

she knows

when

she’s over

matched

and she

hates

to lose

at anything

she has a

tendency

to throw out

little smiles

instead of

words

not knowing

what to say

when she gets

those judging

looks

from the

people

she walks past,

longing for just

one day

of invisibility

able to work

and play

without having

to answer for

her every action

no matter how

outlandish

or small

that action

might be

but that day

will never

come

she hasn’t been

part of the

background

in life

since she was

five,

she gets

halfway

from the

end

of the

hall

tilts her

head

to the right

and gives the

guy

watching her

a little smile

then she

proceeds

on her way

down the

hallway

with a walk

of indifference

and a slow

sway

of her hips…
