So here we lay dying

So here we lay dying, cheeks flush

for all the love in the world is not enough

How grim he stands, dark and rough, sickle in hand

a recognized traveler, for death you cannot bluff

Tender kisses on warm lover’s flesh will not

stave off the bell, a toll that leads to shadow lands

and in the end when last light comes down

the candle winks and your final breath snuffs out.

So here we lay dying, cheeks flush

for all the love in the world is not enough.
