Truth can be stranger than fiction. This flash fiction piece is based on an actual happening, which I witnessed many years ago, in the State of Maine, USA.

Wiped Clean

by Lionel Walfish

Babs Nugent mopped her sweaty brow with a work glove from her jean's back pocket.

She descended the ladder that leaned against the large window of the Majestic Food Market Emporium and looked up at her work. All the windows gleamed. It was a job well done. One last trip tomorrow, she thought, and the arduous task would finally be completed.

Babs made her way to the parking lot and opened the door to her new Cadillac convertible. If she hurried, she would just be able to make a quick clothing change at home, and then meet her husband at the Executive Golf Club on Upper Briar Hill Summit.

As Babs drove quickly out of the parking lot, she glanced over at the windows. They shone brilliantly.

All that, she thought, just for a small jar of pesto.....
