It is twilight, the moon is purple tonight, the road is black and yellow and plain There is no one but a black bird and a mockingbird But the headlights of a car come this way

It lights up the road It's next to a house on the left Inside a woman is resting after giving birth

At the dawn the moon is gone the purple light, the twilight is gone within the sun's bright light

But it will be back The mockingbird and blackbird if they make it that night

They will flap home Back to their nest While the rest of the world lives on
