The Giving Tree

Hands unfold like flowers

Open, bare

Presenting you with my soul

My essence

Eyes light up in admiration

Hands reach to hold

To squeeze

To return me withered and dry

Little ones reach for my hands

Cracked and bloody

Meets soft, young, foolish

They are going to need a piece of me too

Water roots with tears

Negate thoughts of insecurity

Individuality, insanity

Break it off. Hand it over.

When all of me is gone

My arms cannot stretch to cover you

You cannot rest

I cannot breathe

But I grit my teeth and smile
