War at Home
 

The lines are drawn
like shallow trenches,
unable to provide
real cover from
the lustful sniping
across the dinner table.
At first, the wounds
just numb the senses,
until realization
slowly sets in.
Then the emotional
gangrene eats away
the compassion once felt
for each other’s needs.
Thus preventing any type
of honorable capitulation.
Silence just becomes
another interlude
for renewal
of hostilities.
