Silence

By Bridget Kennedy

Silence is the answer
When no words describe the feelings
Making war for the emotions
Trapped inside a beating heart;
It's the way to cure the cancer

Of the underhanded dealings
Turning teardrops into oceans
Forcing Mind and Words apart.

When no words describe the sinking
Of the ship entitled 'Reason'
And a Joy keeps watch in silence
As it sinks beneath the waves,
Only Silence follows Thinking
As it forces out of season
Any acts of peace or vi'lence.
Only Silence 'Reason' saves.

When each word displays defiance
And flies freely its true colors
Leaving Speech itself defenceless
'Gainst the foe that once was friend,
Then you turn to blessed Silence

 Rising loyal o'er the others,
And you see that words are senseless.
All is quiet in the end.
