My whole self was made from some of your part
Without you seeing the construction of
A new beating heart

We both know of the other’s existence
Without speaking nor setting eyes on the
Other’s live likeness

I saw pictures of you young but not old
Without a care and a smile on your face
You’ve changed since, I’m told

Did you ever see a picture of me
Without some of the part that made my whole
Heart grow by the sea

My mother gave all I ever needed
Without a choice to be two in one
She never pleaded

We both don’t know if the other’s alive
Without a hope of ever seeing you
My heart sometimes dies.

I still never let myself grieve too long
Without understanding that my small part
Can keep beating strong

You can keep hiding, I won’t come looking
