Look skyward–the moon hungers

It’s big and round and red

It has cut itself on the shards of stars

And bleeds disease across the sky.

October is the killing month

It swallows oceans whole

It is the ending of a life.

Defeated Perseids, obscured by Heaven’s death-veil,

You are lost in the troposphere, drowned by the moon,

That greedy thing now a sliver of something once whole.

It is drowned by the horizon

And amid the dawn’s rising light,

Even the stars can fall.
