The Light of Day

Bobi Leutschaft Poitras c August 28, 2017

The light of dawn felt heavy

As it rose and touched my head -

The peacefulness of night was gone;

The safety of my bed.

The things that crush me daily were

Before me once again,

And as a river ever flows,

The thoughts ran in my brain.

It used to be that night was dark

And when the daylight came,

In ignorance I jumped about

And staked a different claim.

But while my eyes were wide I saw

The harm that has been done,

And so I greet the darkening sky

And covet not the sun.

They say (whoever they may be)

That in the dead of night

The vilest and most wicked deeds

The fires of Hell ignite;

That in the darkest, dankest lairs

The beasts await their prey.

Yet I believe the foulest fiends

Walk in the light of day.
