I Am To Me

Bobi Leutschaft Poitras c May 2017

I look into my eyes and say,

"Come on, tell me what's true."

I tell myself the many things

I can not tell to you.

I laugh at things you do not know -

The things that make me me.

Sometimes I feel a bit surprised

At all the things I see.

I am to me what I can't be

To any other one -

It isn't that I want to hide

Nor do I wish to run...

It's just that deep inside my head

Are thoughts too strange to share

And deep inside my heart there are

The things I can't lay bare.

Secrets? Oh, I have a few...

I'll take them to the grave.

Some are mine and some are not -

Still, they're mine to save.

It's not that I'm a Jekyll -

No Hyde is in my blood.

I'd simply rather keep myself

From all the slinging mud.

I am to me what I can't be

To any other one -

At times it's quite discouraging,

At other times it's fun.

It may seem quite absurd to you -

All that I won't show;

And yet I feel you're just like me.

But only you would know.
