We the Enemy of the People

By Carla Charter

We the enemy of the people

Who are not

Who bring the darkness to light

The corrupt to justice

The hidden blight to the masses

And the waste to the enraged

We, the enemy of the people

Who are not,

For the people,

They do not fear our words

For they are sent like arrows

to tell the truth

of those who would prefer

the truth tellers quieted

They disrupt the lives of the comfortable,

those who cannot see the iniquities of their transactions,

So our words will continue

to spray the honesty of our sentences

like sparks among the immortality of the dark corners of our country.

Until the house shines and glistens clean once again

Our words will chase the braggarts and the thieves

scurrying back to the holes

From whence they came

We the enemy of the people

who re not

Protect our freedoms

Through their words

their columns,

and their very lives

placed on the line

for the service of many

and to preserve the democracy

and speeches freedom for all.
