The Ladies

Coiffed, styled, cotton hair

Turquoise, pedicured toes

Leather, tanned faces

Bedazzled bling on their clothes

Ladies, defined by marriage rewind

with booze and song

They gossip over drinks, laugh about men

And think this is where we belong

Baking, sewing, grandchildren growing

And many may wish to begin again

Not a dream has been realized

Except snagging their men

They’ve married well

They’ll not die alone

They’ll get their manicures

On that vinyl throne

They drink away what they might be missing

Enough to forget, time’s  run out for wishing

They’ve done their best;

gave up their dreams while young

And, I must sit among them

And hold my tongue.
