Through my nostalgia tinted shades, the view

In the rearview mirror, seems so much clearer.

The further I drive, the memories grow dimmer

And dimmer, until they fade away into the night.

Can I press rewind, and get a second chance,

When it comes to hindsight, I’ve got 20/20 vision.

Indecision, causing most of my issues, and now

I know which exit, I should’ve taken instead.

Waking up at 7am, right in the peak of Autumn,

An overcast and breezy Friday afternoon, a perfect day.

The fruits of life were ripe, and now they’re rotten,

I was still full of hope, and now I’m too jaded to care.

Flashback to when, I didn’t need drugs to feel complete,

To when, I didn’t need all of these pills, just to function.

It all blew up in my face, my life is at peak dysfunction,

Wanna throw away the last few years, then press delete.

I remember friday nights, spent laser tagging with the crew,

Remember all the times, that we hung out, at a moments notice.

My best friend has now become my ex-best friend, the final embers

Of our friendship, finally fizzled out, towards the end of December.

Dropped a lot dead weight, but the pain still remains,

Living day by day, chronic illness, the pills try to keep at bay.

Lost a lot of fucking friends, my heart can’t take another break,

I know that high school was hell, but I keep yearning for those days.

Cause it was simpler back then, I was mentally stronger back then,

Could still pretend, that my dad wasn’t lying, when he said he loved me.

Grew up overnight, the weight of responsibility got me feeling like Atlas,

I’ll place a wish upon a shooting star, to go back to those halcyon days.

Through my nostalgia tinted shades, the view

In the rearview mirror, seems so much clearer.

The further I drive, the memories grow dimmer

And dimmer, until they fade away into the night.
