Flakes are swirling in wind that blows

Don your boots and your warmest clothes

Frozen lashes, frozen nose,

Frozen fingers, frozen toes.

Hurry out before it slows!

Into the wind and sleet and snows

And every patch of skin that shows

Shall to the weather be exposed.

Sledding, playing, snowball throws

Drift of snow that grows and grows

Lose all thought of sorrow and woes

Escape completely from those who oppose

Escape and be concealed from those

Who are dangerous dragons, villains and foes

And from those who the darkness chose

Who hatred, anger and darkness sows

Meet the man who outside froze

In a stiff and awkward pose

Who if in summer might scare the crows

And keep them at bay from garden rose

Who is this man, do you suppose,

Who in the summer would decompose,

Watching over plants in rows?

A man made entirely of winter snows!

So, if to go out into the flurry, you chose

And let the door behind you close

Against all thought, all rhyme, all prose

Go out to where the whiteness glows

Beside the crackling fire doze

And beside its shining ashes arose

And out into the fury goes

To romp and play where whiteness flows
