By strolling through the pale fog of my dreams

I find you standing there, a living ghost.

Your coy smile reminds me evermore

Of a time which was but a hollow hoax.

These screams upon waking in the black night

Echo those loosed by my past buried self.

You are pages I want burned to dark ash

A book to leave there unread on the shelf.

A ghost before me still wears blushing flesh;

In waking hours holds a beating heart.

How sweet those words did fall from honeyed lips

Yet now they taste only bitter and tart.

Before me is a ghost that’s not yet dead.

Though for me it died, the corpse walks and breathes.

Cremate this body, exorcise my mind.

Allow that memory to fade and leave.
