Would you still love me?

If I wished to walk alone;

Towards an unknown destination that life has never shown;

And wished to traverse my own journey and to embrace my own pace,

Would you then rescue me from the trap of life’s race?

Would you still love me?

If for a moment, I refused to hold your hand;

But assured you my presence in word and spirit with a strong stand,

Would you still believe that we can together build memories so grand?

Would you still love me?

If I refused to rest next to you and wish to heartily live;

Would you then withdraw and say that you have absolutely nothing to give?

Would you still love me?

If I told you, that I seek permanence;

And at the same time valuing my freedom with extra vigilance;

Would you then perceive it as superiority or pretence?

Would you still love me?

If I nudged you to let go of toxicity;

And convinced you that it would pave the way to an incessant proximity,

Would you still stay in my vicinity?

Would you still love me?

If I became unveiled;

And brought forth the pragmatism which, within myself, I always held?

Would you still love me?

If I employed silence as my channel of communication;

While trying to enjoy our journey regardless of the destination!

Would you still love me?

If I ever wished that you sensed the dry humour in-between the lines I never spoke;

Would we still laugh our hearts out together and choke?

Would you still love me?

If I repeatedly expressed my dissatisfaction that life is unkind;

Would you abandon me along with my negativity or good times would you rewind?

Would you still love me?

If I begged of you to not put me off when I glow like a candle;

Would the innocence that I then radiate, be too difficult to handle?

Would you still love me?

If I told you that mother earth is too barren to bear the fruits of our love;

And directed you to look up above;

Would you then let your fleeting spirit perch on the wings of a dove?

And fly off with me to a whole new world;

Where a new ‘us’ could have unfurled!

Would you still love me?

If I said that I am afraid of the rain;

Would you still drench yourself with me to help me wash out all my pains?

Would you still love me?

If I express my inability to bring down the moon and the sun;

At the same time promising to be your brightest star, till with this mundane life we are done!

Would you still love me?

If I told you that our souls would converge on the other side of life’s street;

Would you prefer to go through the grief of parting or the joy of this awaited meet?
