The Tightrope

I stepped a tightrope long ago,
not caring what was down below,
as heart and mind were fixed upon,
one single, shimmering, shining goal.

A joy incessant, purely true,
Essence, inherent, born anew,
and eyes saved perfect on the scheme,
my resting place...and that was you.

A dance so stepped with sheer delight,
No dread of the courageous height,
footfalls together through the years,
resplendent days and murky nights.

And I don't know if I've grown old,
if dreams and stories gone untold
have caused my gaze to cascade down,
abated fervor left to cold.

Or if our lives, with dreams in tow,
have led us where we'd dared not go,
and purposed us in fact to grow,
In the Gardener's terrace down below
the tightrope.
