Bleakness

My heart beats alone within its cage

As I walk along a lonely pier

That sits on lonely waters

So still that nothing may be beneath them.

Loneliness

Has become something of a friend

A fiend in dark times in dark places

In dark waters that spread before me

An ocean of solitude upon which I stand.

Darkness

Sits beneath these waters without waves

So still, so serene that perhaps they are truly empty,

And perhaps my place is among those

Who have fallen in and never returned.

Stillness,

A desire dead, buried back on the shore

Far from where I now stand

Alone, for we all must walk this pier at some time

At some point, in some way, someday.

Kindness,

I see in my reflection. A kind of kindness

To me, self empathy, or loathing, I’m not sure which.

My reflection calls to me, kiss me

Be the first and last kiss I will receive.

Emptiness,

Is all that is left upon this dark pier

After I fall into these still waters without sound

Making not a ripple as I vanish from the dock

Just one more lonely soul saying goodbye.

Finality,

Like ice within my veins it flows

These waters are cold, uncaring

Unmoving and unforgiving, but offer absolution,

And immediately, I know it is here that I belong.
