Little green seaweed

Tumbling with the salty breeze,

The ocean brought you here, I’m sure,

But whom do you stay for?

Are you here for beach birds,

The white sandpipers?

To teach them not to be afraid?

The rolling wake moves

As fickle as they.

Are you here for beach sand?

To feel the grains?

Coarser than water, I’m sure,

But soft all the same.

Or are you here to watch the cliffs?

The crumbling precipice?

And wonder why

The trees live up here.

Without coming down

For year upon year.

All are good reasons.

As good as mine, I’m sure.

But I think you stay

For love of the waves.

To spend your last days

With them on the shore.
