The princess wanted so much to believe Crook was, in fact, a changed man. She wanted more than anything for them to work, but she knew she would have to give him up and that was something she knew she could never do. She knew this Day would come when she would finally surrender and put an end to All of her sufferings. Who was she kidding, it was obvious that she wasn't even remotely strong enough to survive this. She'd had enough of the men who'd played games with her heart. The men who swore they were different than her previous. would never understand why the Princess still had a weakness for Crook. Why he still crossed her mind time to time. 17 years was a long time. She wished she could permanently erase the memories of him. The good. The bad. Crook was not the same person, and he would never be. She knew she had to let go, but it was hard knowing that he still needed her. She knew in her heart that it was only a matter of time before she would be forced to say goodbye forever. Would she be able to live with herself knowing she could have held on longer, even If he never deserved it? She couldn't help but think she had forsaken him. He was struggling with addiction, and every day he lost more and more of who he was. She couldn't bear to see him like that. Was she right to let go? Should she have remained fighting? Sacrificing her happiness in an attempt to save Crook? Surrendering all she had left to keep good on her end staying true to the promises she made? The person she once knew would have done that for her. She didn't have it in her to look their precious child in the eye and tell him about Crooks sudden demise. She wasn't ready to say goodbye.
