On the metro one day

I looked up and I saw it

A hundred some souls

Were all lost there in transit.

I saw

Their banal looks on their plastic faces

And the way time sighs in those empty spaces

I saw

Everyone looking somewhere afar

All of them seeing nothing at all

They were all stuck

Between one place and the next

A disarming thing for souls these days --- I guess

A pause from their distractions

The taking of a breath

A comma between here and there

And this careless human dream

Wedged between this sudden birth

And that final promised rest
