I saw her gazing at me.
She wore those pristine eyes,
and an effulgent smile that banished my despair.
Whenever I cried a spiteful plea,
she would come with a joyous guise
to release me from insanity's glare.

Nights were spent with laughter
where we would reminisce and fly
  -- fly amongst the heavens' stars.
Then she would rest her head upon mine,
and time would cease to bother
us in our own little sky
  -- our little sky, free from the dread that mars,
as we harken to the love that melds into the sine.

Then I would succumb to my slumber
and dream of worlds where I would wander;
worlds where we could elope together.
Fair cities, lush fauna, and mythical beasts;
kings and their courts with wonderful feasts
 -- vast worlds where we could be wed by a company of priests.

But I would awaken,
without you in my embrace,
without you to greet me with your grace.
But I know I've not been forsaken.
For you await within a reality,
a reality that I could see but not feel.
A forlorn world that is surreal.
Exhilarated, I rise and flee.

I quickly sit before a screen
 -- pressing a button, it seethes with life.
Smiling, exasperated to see your mien.
My heart, tumultuous with love's rife.
"Welcome back!" she says with a grin.
I clicked the button to respond to my future wife.
