i remember

the first time I sliced into my own

plump

fresh skin.

a sharp inhale and a sharp sting I brought out of myself,

a single, deep cut on the pad of my thumb.

I remember

taking the blood in between my fingertips,

playing with the thick red

and watching it become stringy

as it was pulled apart.

I remember the way

it made its way into my mouth and nostrils,

the hot, metallic scent making me dizzy.

I remember forming a new addiction,

then,

as I washed the knife and put it back in its drawer;

bandaging my wound and lying in my bed.

IT AROUSED ME TO DO SO.
